Who is Silentnight Hungarian Goose Feather & Down duvet for?

Silentnight Hungarian Goose Feather & Down duvet is suitable for many different types of customers and that is why it is so popular in the market. Silentnight is one of the UK’s oldest sleep companies and decades of experience have proven to be key in making a duvet that is good both for hot sleepers, allergy sufferers and cold sleepers.

This duvet has general characteristics that should suit everyone. Vegans may be an exception, but this is an ethically sourced product so it is cruelty-free.

It is lightweight and Silentnight also recommends it for lighter and smaller sleepers who don’t want the duvet to be heavy almost like a weighted blanket. The sizes are ideal for couples who don’t mind sharing a duvet.

Features you should know about Silentnight Hungarian Goose Feather & Down duvet

Now that you know some general characteristics of the Silentnight Hungarian Goose Feather & Down duvet, it’s time to introduce you to the most important features. Duvet never has as many features as a mattress when we have to list 5 or more features. Cover, filling and maintenance are worth mentioning plus we will tell you more about warranty.

    100% cotton cover

Many customers agree that no material is as soft, breathable and light as cotton. That’s why people use it for thousands of years. There are many different types of cotton but the general characteristics are the same. As soon as we saw that the duvet cover is made of cotton, we knew it is a great choice by manufacturer.

Although thread count is not the only indicator of quality, you should know that this cover is 300 thread count. It makes it durable and breathable. It is very soft because it is 100% made of cotton, it is not a blend of cotton and some other material.

    Hungarian feather & down fill

Hungarian feather and down is considered to be the best quality compared to other types of feather and down. This duvet contains a mixture of 80 percent feather and 20 percent down, which is the most common ratio in both pillows and duvets.

In this way, a perfect balance of breathability, softness and warmth is achieved. Down is a softer and lighter than feather, but also much more expensive, so this is one of the reasons why the blend is the best option. Responsible Down Sourcing standards are followed which means that filling is ethically sourced with no live plucking.

    Machine washable

Maintenance is often overlooked, although this is very important. It is crucial that your sleep environment is clean and allergen-free whether you are allergy sufferer or not. Even if you are not, allergies can occur at any time.

Silentnight Hungarian Goose Feather & Down duvet is fully machine washable at 40 degrees C.

    5 year warranty

Guarantee is always desirable because it gives you the ultimate peace of mind and makes your investment safe, especially when a product is more expensive than average like this duvet.

But what really surprised us was the duration of the guarantee. Although we tested a dozen duvets, we very rarely found those that have a warranty longer than 2 years, and the average is 1 year warranty. Silentnight Hungarian Goose Feather & Down duvet comes with a 5-year manufacturer’s guarantee which is absolutely amazing.

Review of Silentnight Hungarian Goose Feather & Down duvet

Silentnight Hungarian Goose Feather & Down duvet is a premium duvet offered by Silentnight company that has existed since 1946 and has been one of the most prominent UK sleep companies for decades. This duvet is filled with a perfect blend of feather and down, in a ratio of 80 to 20. The duvet is therefore perfectly balanced and provides everything a customer can expect from a duvet.

The all-natural cover made of cotton further improves breathability, and the cover is soft and cozy. This product is available in two different versions. TOG rating varies. TOG 10.5 is for those who want an all-season duvet, and 13.5 TOG is a great choice if you need a winter duvet. Other features are the same, including that both are machine washable. This duvet comes with a 5-year warranty.

    KEY FEATURES:
    • Size: Double, King, Super King
    • Fill: Hungarian feather (80%) and down (20%)
    • TOG: 10.5 / 13.5
    • Cover: Cotton
    • Warranty: 5-year.

What we like about Silentnight Hungarian Goose Feather & Down duvet

    • Combination of natural materials is so pleasant for the skin
    • The level of craftsmanship is at a very high level as we expect from Silentnight
    • The product is durable and very easy to maintain.

What we didn’t like about Silentnight Hungarian Goose Feather & Down duvet

    • It is more expensive than the average duvet on the UK market, but the price is reasonable
    • Even an all-season model can be too hot during the summer for hot sleepers
    • Although ethically sourced with no live plucking, vegans are likely to stay away from it.

The common problems with Silentnight Hungarian Goose Feather & Down duvet & how to solve them

It is fairly tough to point out any major downside of Silentnight Hungarian Goose Feather & Down duvet, since we have not noticed anything significant. However, nothing is perfect, so we will mention that no version is 100% suitable for all seasons.

Although the 10.5 TOG version is breathable and even cooling when we consider the TOG rating, it is still not perfect for summer. There is virtually no solution for that, but cold sleepers will certainly not agree with us.

If vegans have problem with feather and down, they should look for Cloud bamboo duvet or wool duvet since they have similar characteristics.

What makes this product better than some other similar ones?

Although synthetic materials are used even more in recent years and we can certainly understand why this is the case, we still like to test a product like the Silentnight Hungarian Goose Feather & Down duvet which is made from 100% natural materials. Synthetics have certain advantages, and that is primarily the price, but it will never be able to provide the same level of comfort and breathability as feather, down and cotton. It is the materials that make this product better than some other similar ones. Another thing we have to mention is the 5 year warranty. It is certainly something that makes this product better than some other similar ones and that no one can dispute.

How did we test the product?

Before you start shopping, decide which TOG rating you want. We have of course ordered both, so that we can provide you with an in-depth review. We waited a few days for the duvets to be delivered to us, and delivery is scheduled within 3-5 working days. You can choose contactless delivery.

When they arrived, we unpacked them and checked all the seams. Everything looked perfect, which is a must for a duvet that costs 100 and more pounds. We then washed them, both as part of a maintenance test and to prepare them for overnight tests.

Duvets are tricky to test because they have to be tested by cold sleeper, hot sleepers, allergy sufferer and many other types of people in order to be able to recommend a particular product to you. That is why the testing of this duvet, like most others, lasted more than 10 days. All members of our test team tested both models in different conditions.

Overall impressions of the product after the testing

In our opinion Silentnight Hungarian Goose Feather & Down duvet is one great product. Silentnight has used premium materials and you will feel it if you only use it for half an hour. Feather and down blend characteristics as well as cotton cover are ideal for duvet. It is breathable, so you will not sweat, and you will not be cold either.

We were very pleasantly surprised with condition of the filling after washing.
What we expected when we tested the all-season 10.5 TOG is that it will be less warm. However we can’t say it’s all-season because it’s too hot for summer for most people. Other than that, we have nothing else negative to add and that is why our overall impression is at a very high level after testing.

FAQs about your Silentnight Hungarian Goose Feather & Down duvet

In final section of our review, find out answers to the frequently asked question about your new Silentnight Hungarian Goose Feather & Down duvet.

Although it is available in two TOG ratings which are certainly not suitable for summer TOG, due to the nature of the materials this duvet is cooling and breathable.

Silentnight Hungarian Goose Feather & Down duvet is hypoallergenic and only those who are allergic to feather and down should avoid it, while it is safe for other allergy sufferers.

The manufacturer did not specify whether duvet is tumble dryer friendly, so our advice is to hang dry it.

Considering the length of the warranty it will last at least 5 years, and probably longer.

Generally it is suitable because cotton is very breathable, as well as filling blend, but during summer hot sleepers might need duvet with TOG rating between 3 and 5.
