Ready for a short history class?
Satin bed sheets were usually made from silk! And, as you know, in the past times, silk was reserved only for royalty and those really wealthy.
However, ‘regular' people really liked the idea of having luxurious bedding, so they started making satin bed sheets (as well as pillowcases, duvet covers, and all other linen) out of synthetic materials. Those synthetic materials were usually polyester, nylon, or rayon as these were more affordable and thus, more accessible to everyone.
More and more people are on Amazon, trying to buy those perfect bedding items made of satin for their bedroom (and the rest of their home). But, what happened all of a sudden? Why do we suddenly love satin so much?
Well, first of all – sleeping on satin has many benefits (we will mention these soon enough).
And, second, sleeping on satin proved to reduce friction on the skin and hair. Let us explain – when you sleep on sheets made of cotton, for example, there's a lot of rubbing on behalf of your skin and your sheets (and pillowcases). This can cause irritations on the skin and tangles on the hair. However, since satin sheets are soft and smooth, they don't allow for this friction to happen.
So, when we don't have this friction going on, we wake up with smooth skin, both on our face and body, and we wake up with a ‘good hair day' – that is why we, and all of you, love satin bed sheets.
The fact that some celebrity out there really loves his or her fitted sheet and pillowcase to be made of satin is not the only reason why satin is making a huge comeback, no.
Namely, satin sheets come with many other benefits. So, let us mention some of them.
One of the reasons why so many people enjoy satin sheets is their soft and smooth texture. Satin has a luxurious and silky texture that feels comfortable on all skin types. Thus, those who prefer to have their beds as comfortable as they can be, usually go for these types of sheets.
Another great thing about satin sheets, and all other linen made of satin, is that they are great for temperature regulation. Satin is a rather cold material and, as such, it keeps the sleepers very cool during those warm spring and summer months. Moreover, satin is a material that wicks away any moisture, and thus, it keeps us dry and fresh.
When compared to all other bed sheets on the market, that is, when compared to other materials used for making sheets, satin proved to be the most resilient of them all. If you maintain and care for it properly, it will stay as good as new for years. And, if you invest in some really good-quality satin sheets, be sure that those years can easily turn into decades.
Of course, when buying sheets, besides the colours and the ‘feel they offer', one also has to look for the price. This is another benefit of satin bed sheets – they look and feel luxurious, but, they don't break one's budget. Yes, there are satin bed sheets that are made of premium materials, and yes, they are an investment, but, you can achieve the same effect with something cheaper as well.
Satin sheets have a sort of elegant appearance. They are shiny, but not too shiny – if you know what we mean. If you pick the right set of sheets, the right pillow case, and the right duvet cover, be sure that you will transform not only your bed but your entire bedroom. Luckily, finding the right satin bedding is not hard – they come in so many colours, patterns, and sizes, thus, finding the one that matches your personal style is relatively easy.
YES! Satin as a material is very hypoallergenic! Since it has a very dense thread count, it doesn't ‘harbour' dust, dust mites, and other allergens. Thus, it doesn't matter whether you have some allergies or extremely sensitive skin, your otolaryngologist or your dermatologist will definitely recommend these types of sheets too.
Okay, we would be lying if we said that satin bed sheets are just perfect. They are not! They are not because everything that has pros must have some cons. So, what are the cons of sleeping on satin?
Well, one of the biggest cons is that satin is, well, cold. Thus, this material is not suitable for cold nights. Moreover, it is not suitable for cold sleepers either, no matter the season.
Moreover, although satin is easy to wash and dry, it is not so easy to iron. If you wash and dry this material in your handy machine, prepare for a lot of wrinkles. These wrinkles can be ironed if you have a good quality steam iron – but, that too will require a lot of your time and energy. So, our advice – wash your satin sheets in your washing machine, but let them air dry instead of using your drying machine. This way, the material will get rid of all its wrinkles by itself (but, yes, some of the wrinkles will still linger on your sheets until you have slept on them).
Satin sheets can help you sleep in so many ways.
If you are a hot sleeper, or if you are a ‘regular' sleeper sleeping somewhere where it is hot and humid – satin will stop you from waking up in the middle of the night by regulating your body temperature.
Suffering from allergies – satin sheets will keep you safe as they don't store any allergens.
If you hate the friction coming from your cotton or some synthetic sheets – satin sheets will prevent any skin irritation and hair breakage.
If you love to sleep on soft and smooth bedding – satin sheets will provide you with the ultimate comfort.
As you have seen, satin bed sheets come with benefits. They are good for our skin, hair, and our sleep. Thus, if they are already in your Amazon basket, in some other shop basket, don't hesitate to buy them. Depending on the bed you use, you might want to check deep fitted sheets as – which come in different sizes and materials. You will see instant results after the first night you have slept on them – trust us on that one. We also recommend you checking Dunelm bed sheets as they offer a wide range of different sheets.
