Every year, once spring comes around, we're faced with the challenge of storing our winter duvets until next year. So, let's discuss the best duvet storage ideas that can make your life a lot easier!
Although having a big fluffy duvet is nothing short of bliss during the winter, putting it away is a completely different story. After all, if you have limited storage space,Β storing bedding can be an absolute nightmare.Β And this gets even more difficult if you want your storage unit to look good as well!
So, today we're going to go over some duvet storage ideas that can hopefully make the entire process a bit easier. Some ideas might be better suited for some than others but we think everyone will find at least one they like. Plus, we'll go over a few tips to make the entire process a bit easier as well. To start things off, we're just going to go over a few general storage ideas for where you can put your bedding away. Of course, not everyone will have all the items for every single tip so, we suggest utilising the one that works best for your situation.

In the linen closet
Of course, the most obvious place for linen storage is a linen closet. After all, that's their main purpose. And this comes with a few key advantages. For one, you can store your duvet, duvet covers, pillow covers, and even pillows all in one place. This means that you never have to wonder where you placed your down comforter as there will only be one place to look.
Secondly, linen closets are arguably the best in terms of aesthetics as well. After all, besides your linen, you usually store towels and other similar items in there. And since they're all typically monochrome and easy to arrange, you can make quite a nice display. Just make sure to place the duvet and pillows in the back, so that you can still reach your towels without knocking anything over.
Under your bed
Another obvious choice where you can store bedding is under your bed. It's out of the way and out of sight, so, it's ideal for storing items you don't need every day. However, there are a few things you should keep in mind if you decide to go for this option.

After all, they usually stay relatively clean, keep your bedding safe from any playful dogs, and stay out of your way during the summer months.
In a storage basket
When it comes to long-term storage that also looks seamless, storage baskets are your best friend. After all, they come in all different shapes, sizes, and designs, meaning that you can tailor the look of your entire storage area. On top of that, they allow you to store items in a rather subtle way as a bunch of storage baskets are a lot more inconspicuous than a mountain of folded duvets.
Plus, they can make organising your closet a lot easier as you can label different baskets for different things. Although they're not as effective when it comes to seasonal storage, dryer sheets can keep your bedding fresh for quite a significant time. So, if you have to put your duvet away for a week or so, placing dryer sheets in between the folded layers can make it seem like it just got out of the washer!
And who doesn't love the feeling of fresh bedding? That being said, check the care label on your respective bedding products as some brands do discourage this practice. But more than likely, you should be fine.
Proper folding
You'd think that we'd all know how to properly fold our duvets after doing it every morning for the vast majority of our lives. However, there are a few little changes that could make the entire process a lot more efficient. For one, make sure to get all of the excess air out of the duvet before you start folding.
Secondly, consider rolling your duvet up instead of folding it into the usual rectangle package. This could make it a lot easier to store in the closet and will make it more easily accessible if it's near the front of the pile.
Make sure everything is dry
Dry bedding is good bedding, and that's something you should always keep in mind. After all, excess moisture can damage your linen in a number of ways! From less tragic outcomes like a funky smell and mildew to the worst-case scenario, mould. No matter how you slice it, moisture can make it so that you have to throw away even your favourite bedding products.
So, what can you do? The easiest solution is to tumble-dry your bedding. However, not all duvets can be safely dried this way, so make sure you read the care label first. But things like sheet sets and pillowcases are likely to be safe for tumble-drying.
Secondly, utilise air drying. It's simple, effective, and surprisingly thorough. All you have to take note of is that you don't want all the filling to end up in one corner of the duvet. So, if you hang the duvet while it air dries, make sure to shake it up a bit before you put it away. And, make absolutely certain that the filling is completely dry β especially if you have a down duvet.
Take extra care of your down products
As we've alluded to a few times so far, down bedding products can be a lot more delicate than other bedding items. And since they're also usually more expensive, keeping them in pristine condition will always be in your interest.
So, here's what you should keep in mind. First off, don't be too harsh when folding. One of the main selling points of down duvets and comforters is the lift. But if you completely squash the duvet when folding, it can lose its fluffiness. The same goes for vacuum bags. However, if you do have to go down this route, make sure to re-fluff it every one or two weeks so that it doesn't become completely flat.
Secondly, make triple sure that the down is dry. As we've mentioned already, all bedding products need to be kept dry. But down products are by far the most delicate as the feathers and down can clump together. So, pay close attention to the care label and be absolutely certain that there's no excess moisture.
Use an acid-free box
